The 14th World Championship saw us break new ground by conducting a tournament in a Country where there was no established Left-Handed Golf Association. The tournament was organized and run by the Executive Chairman Doug Crosby and WALG Secretary Peter Read from Australia.

All ground work in Spain was carried out by Catriona Jennings from CJGOLF, a Spanish group specialising in golf events. The tournament proved a great success and showed the Executive that a tournament could be run without a local Association in place.

The tournament headquarters was the Don Carlos Hotel a 10 minute drive from the centre of Marbella. There were four courses used to conduct the Championship, Santa Maria Golf & Country Club, Mijas Golf Complex, La Quinta Golf & Country Club and the Los Naranjos Golf Course. The tournament was played on Monday 3rd June, Tuesday 4th June, Thursday 6th June and Friday 7th June 2002.

The welcome Cocktail Party was held at the Don Carlos Hotel on Sunday evening 2nd June where, Mr. Doug Crosby, Executive Chairman of WALG welcomed everyone to the Costa Del Sol advising all that the scene was set of a great time in a great location on four great courses.
